Racor 500 MINIMUM flow

I saw somewhere, fuel polishing thread?, that a Racor 500 needs a good fuel flow to make the seperator work. with only forty ponies that equates to about 8 liters per hour plus fuel return. Geesus I can pee faster than that.
Am I wasting my time with the 500's?

Racor doesn't show any minimum flow rate, only a max.

I have twins 500's on my 3ym30, no issues with seperation or filtration. I caught a touch of water once, but have never had any significant contamination issues.

I have my 500's in series. The first filter is a 20 micron filter, the second is a 3 or 5 micron filter can't remember exactly which.

The R500 is plenty filter for small sailboat motor- the problem is when its used on larger motors 200hp and up( not enough capacity) or flow rate. The spin effect to remove water is controversial. the see through bowl may be helpful but is also of questionable value( hard to see water) and if not test drained can lead to false security

They do not "spin" the fuel to get rid of the water. In fact, quite the opposite. The seperater is designed to slow the fuel and water down as such that the water drops to the bottom of the bowl and the fuel is sent upwards so as the water can seperate as efficiently as possible. So no, you will have no issues with too little flow.
And also, it is very easy to see water on the bottom of Diesel and very easy to see it through the bowl.
