Racor dual filter valve replacement

I have an older dual 500 fuel filter that has the plastic insert in the switching valve that breaks with age. The replacement valve is $300 , half the price of a new dual filter unit. Has anyone found a way to service the old style valve to get a longer life out of it? Mine is getting hard to turn.

Re: Racor dual filter valve replacement

It has been a while since I rebuilt my dual 500 valve. In y case the internals had broken such that it did not work at all.. I assume that eventually all of the old type will break.

I did buy the rebuild kit and found it 'easy" to install. It has been working smoothly and without problems for the last 5 years.

I'll let others chime in but I expect that (after shopping around) spending the money for a rebuild kit will be money well spent in terms of worry free operation.

Regards

Always glad to help out.

When I was working mine I did a bunch of research and found a rebuild guide by mainesail (Rod Collins) very useful.
