Unfortunately, the heat shield renders the more convenient drain plug useless, since the mounting bolt for the shield becomes the drain plug. Alas.
i think racor also makes a metal spigot which you can screw in instead of the drain plug: the compliant one has both a UL-listed valve and an additional plug. that adds over an inch of height (depth?) to it, which may not work for everyone. I added a street elbow to the spigot (instead of the plug; the plug then screws into the elbow) so that when I need to drain, I can screw in a rubber hose with an adaptor into this thing sideways, meaning I don't have to have the drain bottle right under it. actually, I'm planning to add a priming bulb to the drain hose so the drain bottle doesn't even have to be below the racor (mine's all the way below the floorboards).
