Raw water cooled volvo 1985

Hi all, very close to buying a 28ft power cat! My only worry is the 165hp volvo pentas last done up in 2001 and only 15 hrs use in last 7 years! How bad can they be?

Re: Raw water cooled volvo 1985

Could be terminal, could be fine. Depends on how they were laid up and what conditions they were stored in, and how they were run when they did run them up. TBH 15 hours is barely run in from the rebuild, so they probably haven't even found out if they were rebuilt well or not.
Get a full inspection done by a competent engineer before buying, 2 engines won't be cheap to rebuild if they're FUBARd.

Can't give you any recommendations for your area, as I'm in the U.K.
I would suggest a Volvo dealer, but not the one who did the rebuild. Depends if there are any local or not.
You can get numerous problems when mechanical equipment has been left standing with no use. Hoses, impellers, fuel systems, electrics you name it will need thorough inspections, drive legs can be a real problem with corrosion and leaking seals etc.

Personally, I would want a thorough inspection and extensive testing before purchasing.
