Raw water hose fit

I bought a new hose for the run from the raw water strainer to the water pump">raw water pump. It looks like the attachment is a little wider at the strainer than at the pump and I cannot get the hose on. I have tries dish soap. Is there a way to stretch the hose to fit? Someone at the marine store suggested I could stick the hose in boiling water for a minute? Looking for ideas/reactions.

Boiling water will work for many hoses depending on material. However if it has a wire filament then it won't work. If you can stretch it over after heating with boiling water you will get a great fit. Remember to thread the hose clamp before fitting it's a real pain having to compleley unwind the clamp to fit over.
