Re-power issue

Currently in the midst of re-powering my Pesrson Invictamk2.
She had 3GM30 raw water cooled Yanmar.
I have purchased a remanufactured 3GM30Fresh Water Cooled Yanmar.
The footprint it slightly larger on the Fresh; aft at the gear is where my problem lies.
This fresh water cooled 3GM is too wide to fit down in engine space(bilge) and astern enough to couple shaft to engine. May need to fabricate some more narrow engine feet for motor mount pins to pass thru. New longer shaft or both. Boat is currenly in the water so shaft changes are nill right now.
She'll be on the hard in a week or so. I'd like not to need a tow to the yard, if at all possable...
Looking for any sugestions/ideas to help me move ahead in this repower. At a loss.
Thank you, David

Re: Re-power issue

You can buy or make shaft coupler extensions (google bobbin couplings). How much space do you need to make up? If only an inch or so, then consider adding a flexible coupling to make up that inch.

No bobbin coupling extras needed.
I may have the solution. Waiting for some prts. I'll keep you updated of me progress towards being underway to the hill, the yard...
Thank you for your input colemj.

Btw. How much more interesting does alignment become w a bobbin in the mix?

Re: Re-power issue

Alignment isn't any different at all from normal. All the coupling is is two flanges with an extension between them. Bolt one flange to the shaft flange and then align the other flange with the transmission flange like normal. Frankly, you won't even know it is there.
