Recycling old engine parts

I've never run into this issue before, and just wondering. What to do with old metal engine parts?

I just removed the old mixing elbow and exhaust elbow on my boat and they are pretty heavy pieces of cast iron with a steel connector. And damaged enough that I don't think anyone would want to refurbish them. So what could I do with these, besides throw them in the trash? Put them in a recycling bin? Drop off somewhere?

On the West Coats, the dumps/garbage transfer stations have a bin for metals.

Any black steel fabrication place will have a scrap bin that you can throw them in if you are passing.

Here in Mexico, (and it's been the same in every third world country we've ever visited) you can place anything (including metal pieces, broken electronics, old toilets, ropes, anything) on the wall by the dumpster and it will be gone in five minutes.

Where it goes after that I have no idea.

(My friend left a 6000lb lead keel on the ground in the "wrecks" lot at our marina. It too disappeared within days, and funnily enough, not even the security guards stationed 50 ft away saw or heard anything.)

Hopefully you'll find a recycle bin or a spot for someone else to take.

Lead has a price of approximately $1/#, so a 6000# lead keep would be a nice find!

Re: Recycling old engine parts

We have a scrap metal dealer fairly nearby who will pay us for junk metals. I would check around your area for someone like that.

I am sure Marina Security guards have connections with Scrap Yard Security guards.
