Relocating raw water pump on W71C

I have a Westerbeke W71C which has an inconveniently located water pump">raw water pump, in that an impeller change is a 12 hour job, followed by my local chiropractor rushing off to the Mercedes showroom.

I'm thinking of moving it to the other side of the engine, where everything will be easy to access.

Is this common practice?
How many HP does a 10GPM impeller pump draw?..i.e. How rigid and heavy must the new brackets be?

I'm thinking fabrication from 3/8 inch SS plate may be rigid enough.

Comments and thoughts?
