Replace s/s waterlock with Vetus NLPH Jeanneau 43

The existing stainless waterlock mounted in the engine bearer needs replacing. I have read the posts in this forum and also in Jeanneau owners forum. Has anyone replaced the Waterlock on a Jeanneau 43 Sun Odyssey or similar with the Vetus NLPH Cylinder, I assume it is the 90mm one for a Volvo 55? The Jeanneay forum post shows photos how they located the new Vetus cylinder above the stern gland, I will upload links/photos

The muffler is based on the size of the exhaust hose. Whatever diameter you have leaving the mixing elbow on the engine should be carried on to the muffler, and it determines the size.

From there it is VITAL that the exhaust system fall within the parameters that are listed in the muffler manual. If you have longer or higher hose runs than specified, then returning water might overflow the muffler. Do NOT just assume that the factory install is within the parameters required for a drop in replacement, or that someone else's installation is correct. Measure and be sure.

Hardly a day goes by that someone doesn't post asking for help with a flooded engine. Wet exhausts done right can be extremely reliable, done wrong they kill a lot of engines. Boatbuilders and installation mechanics get it wrong all the time.

Re: Replace s/s waterlock with Vetus NLPH Jeanneau 43

Thanks SailingHarmonie, I will check that it is 90mm, the boat is on the other side of the planet, pretty sure it was 90mm but yes I will get a local to check, here is a photo of the stainless waterlock showing the hole thanks to the flange resting on the fibreglass hole cutout. So plan is to replace the Waterlock in the engine bearer that goes forward with a Vetus cylinder facing aft and over the stern gland so that it can be maintained. Also the quote to replace with stainless steel was understandably quite high
