Replacement Fuel Filter

Hi all,

Wanting to tap the collective wisdom...

I have a Perkins M50 Prima fitted with a RME KC102 secondary fuel filter. Can some knowledgable person advise what makes and brands are equivalent for this part?

The current filter is labelled 'RME Kraftstoff Filter' (German, I guess).

I'm in the Cyclades, Greece, so hunting down a replacement will be difficult.

I've fitted a new primary filter SEPAR. How often should the secondary be replaced?

Thanks,

Steve

Re: Replacement fuel filter

General thinking is every 50 running hours do an oil and filter change. I plan on doing the fuel filters at the same time.

As for the brand, I just took ours in to an autmotive supply house and they looked my samples up and sold me the matching substitutes. Good luck.

dear steve as per mann filters it is either WDK 725 or WDK719
for the accurate filter type if you could measure the height i can tell you exaclty the type. the first one is height 155mm and the second one 127mm
the difference between them is that the first one has one more o-ring than the other and different height

Re: Replacement fuel filter

Hi Steve

Most people with a 10 or 30 micron primary filter change their secondary fuel filter once a year, every 200hrs, when they get a dirty batch of fuel, or bug problem. (Whichever comes first)

I change mine yearly (10 micron primary). I always cut it open and it looks very clean so I would have no concern extending this period if I ran out of filters.

Those with a 2 micron primary filter generally change the secondary filter rarely.

The North of Leros has the biggest chandlery in the area and they stock a reasonable number of fuel filters, but there may be more convenient places.

Sorry I don't know the equivalent part numbers.

Re: Replacement fuel filter

Thanks for the replies.

50 hourly oil changes sounds overly cautious to me. I change my oil and filter every 100 hours. My engine gets regular use, 100 hrs is only about 2 months real time.

I would have thought that the secondary fuel filter would be changed less often than the primary. I think my Separ primary is 30 micron. I plan to change that every 100 hours. Should I change the secondary at the same time? or at some multiple of this?

Thanks, Nolex. We're currently in Syros after major repairs (new transmission) in Lavrio. Will head next to Samos, then maybe down to Leros if I can't source it in Samos.

Regards,

Steve Garlick

Re: Replacement fuel filter

Hi Kleanthis,

We'll be in Samos in about 7 days. I'll drop into Samos marina and say hi. I'd like to get a new 30 m filter for the Separ, and some replacement screw-in canisters for the secondary KC102.

Are there anchoring out locations in Samos? What is the cost of the marina per night?

Thanks for the help.

Regards,

Steve

Re: Replacement fuel filter

hi steve
free anchoring location there is outside of the harbor of pythagorion , samos marina is located at the next bay of pythagorio harbor.About the cost per night in the marina i don't know exactly.you can contact them via there website or i can ask for you if you tell me your yacht length.

About the filter i have plenty filters in stock as i have for our yachts maintenance plus other private yachts that we make maintenance in winter time.

if you could tell me your separ type and the height of your KC102 fuel filter , so i can check in my warehouse but 99% i have them

thanks
Kleanthis

Re: Replacement fuel filter

Hi Kleanthis,

The Separ filter is 00530 (which is the 30 micron filter I guess).

The KC102 fuel filter measures 145mm height from the base of the connection to the end of the screw nut on the bottom.

Regards,

Steve

Re: Replacement fuel filter

Hi again, Kleanthis,

Is there a good INOX guy at Samos marina? We need to weld on some extension plates to the bow roller to adapt it to our new Rocna anchor.

Thanks again, you've become a gold mine of information.

Re: Replacement fuel filter

Hi Kleanthis,

Arrived yesterday, we're docked in the main port in Pythgoria. We plan to walk up to the marina in a day or two. If you're in the main port, stop by and say hello. We're opposite Anthemis cafe.
