Replacement Raw Water Pumps

I have a Yanmar 3HM35F that would benefit from a new water pump">raw water pump.
The existing one is functional with a fix in place after the pulley spun freely on the shaft but I would be happier if I had a new one in place and the old one packed away as a spare.

I received a quote for the replacement pump (721575-42702) and was quite shocked: $1000 can, $735 us.
I am used to boat bits being expensive but - REALLY!

Has anyone had any luck sourcing out alternatives?
I am ok with fabricating a new bracket if necessary.

Thanks.

Re: Replacement Raw Water Pumps

I used depcopumps in Clearwater, Fl. (800 446 1656?) to replace my original Yanmar raw water pump, on my 3GM, with a Johnson pump that came with the correct mounting bracket. Cost if I remember correctly was about half at about $265. US in 2014.
I then sent them the original Yanmar pump to be rebuilt for 100. US.
It came back looking brand new and is now a spare that I know is a correct fit.

Re: Replacement Raw Water Pumps

Went through this years ago on my 3GM30. They wanted $850 for a replacement pump so I bought the same size Johnston pedestal pump for a couple of hundred or so dollars and made a bracket out of a piece of aluminium angle iron.

Yanmar doesn't make the pumps. Figure out who did (Johnston on my Yanmar) and buy theirs.

Re: Replacement Raw Water Pumps

Thanks to all that replied. In the end I found potential replacements from the states but ended going with a replacement pump sourced from a local company.
The pump comes from Italy $667 Can all in. Seems like a bargain after the $1000 prices quoted.

Yep thats Yanmar dealer pricing for you. I got quoted about US $400 for a conrod for our Yanmar ysm8hp about 8 years ago.
As an aside thats a big engine for a 26 footer, ours is the same length but admittedly its underpowered. Dock neighbour with a 26 footer has a 20hp & reckons he has more than enough. I know you have some narrow passages with strong currents to fight around those parts.
