repower options- mechanical vs common rail/electronic?

Hi everyone,
Considering repowering my T40 with vintage 4jhe.

It turns out the Beta 43/50 is 2 inches longer than my current 4jhe which actually won't fit without stair modification.
Yanmar 4jh45/57 fits perfectly. Same engine mount locations, actually 3/4 inch shorter than 4jhe. But I'm slightly leery of the new electronic controls, sensors, etc.

So if I want a fully mechanical diesel, are there options other than Beta? Other options or things I should consider regarding the new Yanmars? I started another thread re the CR technology but want to open up discussion.

Depending where you cruise, Kohler/Lombardini engines are great mechanical diesels. Their CHD series is quire compact too.
In the Med, they even have a much bigger service network than Betas.

Good thing to think about. I'm on US East Coast so probably not feasible.
