Reverse Propulsion

I have a C&C Landfall 38. It has very poor thrust in reverse. Anyone have some suggestions on how to improve this issue? Should I look into having the old Paragon Transmission adjusted? Look into a better Prop? Both? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Colin

The prop may just need a clean up and lube job.

Re: reverse propulsion

Could be that your prop is adjusted for max performance ahead,,but lacks astern because of it.
I was thinking if it was one of those folding propellers, as the motion astern would not be their best use.

Re: reverse propulsion

with some folding props there is a technique to locking them for reverse - how long you had the boat, has the prop always been poor in reverse?

Re: Reverse Propulsion

If it is the old type Martec folding prop, you have to use considerable more RPM in reverse to have the centrifugal force overcome the folding action flow generated by the pitch.
