Saildrive sticking in reverse

Last haulout I had to replace the prop shaft seals on a saildrive leg. (Attached to a volvo penta MD2020). Since then it tends to get "stuck" in reverse. So, idle in reverse, pop it in neutral and the prop still spins in reverse. I have to put it in forward and then back into neutral to stop the prop. It is more of an annoyance than a catastrophe but the boat is due for another haulout soon and I would like to fix it. The question is whether I stuffed something up when I replaced the seals or whether something happened while there was salt water in the oil. Or whether it is just a coincidence. So, I'd really like to know what caused the problem and how to fix it. Any Ideas?

Check the adjustment of the cable and linkage.

Mine was a bit out of adjustment and wouldn't go into reverse

Is it the saildrive that's stuck or the prop? If you have a feathering or folding prop its possible that may be the "sticking" problem.
