Red brass. Not yellow brass. Red brass can be used on marine applications. Different alloy than yellow brass. Bronze of marelon would be better but there is lots of red brass in use on salt water systems.

Bene’s system is the best I have experienced, I suggest it should be maintained as designed.
Generally greased once a year, can be done in the water.( good chance to check the alignment)
I did make it part of arrangement to easily add antifreeze for sub zero situations (I have seen ice thick enough to drive on nearby occasionally, I usually run two deicers in extreme conditions ).
