Sole Diesel Engine

Hi there

Does any one know about sole engines??

Are they reliable, are parts still easy to get? Etc basically any knowledge haha.

I have recently bought a boat with a Sole SM 75. Unfortunately I cant seem to find much details about them except they were discontinued in 2001.

Any further knowledge would be thoroughly appreciated.

Sole is a small firm specializing in the industrial diesel engine marinization of such brands as Lombardini, Mercedes Benz, Perkins, Mazda, Nissan, Hino, VM, New Holland and Mitsubishi.

Your specific model is based on a marinized Mazda diesel motor which they have discontinued fabricating. Only a few components of an engine are involved in marinization the rest are just stock items. Research the Mazda engine model to see if it is still being manufactured and if parts are available. Simple enough to call or email Sole and discuss if they still have the specialized components and if the Mazda parts remain available.

Ask them why they discontinued the model. It was manufactured from 1991 to 2001.

Discontinued from sale does not mean that parts are not available. Albeit that is an old engine model. It is quite likely that the engine is not CE certifiable so as to be allowed to be sold in the EU as to it meeting the newer emissions standards and hence was discontinued from their offerings; that or they have consolidated their offering to another base engine.

In any case, it sounds like your engine is rather old being at least 21 years young, and may need repowering, not rebuilding.
