Re: Stainless petrol tank, avoiding water inside? Corrosion?

the best tanks have no horizontal welds on the bottom, this of course results in a lot of wasted material & so is more expensive.
re coatings: imho they just wait to flake off & clog fuel lines & filters...

When the crystals turn pink I replace the tube with one that has dry crystals in it. The wet ons get dehydrated, then crumbled & put back into the backup tube.

The clear tube is available at Home depot & is a 24" piece of the clear tubes that are used for flourescent light protection. The ends are capped with PVC end caps that have a threaded hole for 5/8" hose barb. A fine mesh SS sink strainer is cut down to fit inside the end caps to keep the crystals restrained.

I think I would get the biggest Mr. Funnel water removing funnel and run the first few gallons of fuel through it. If I didn’t find any water, I’d assume the fuel source was clean.

Re: Stainless petrol tank, avoiding water inside? Corrosion?

I have built many tanks over the years for myself and others both Stainless and Aluminum. My newer designs saw the pick-up tube 1"(25mm) from the bottom of the tank in the lowest point of the tank. Next to that tube is another that goes completely to the bottom of the tank to a plugged fitting on top of the tank (Suction written on top of tank). Every so often I use a bulb-primer to draw up from the bottom, an once or 2, to see if I have water or sludge. Water is what will start the corrosion.
