Starter remove replace VP D1-30

Dead starter on vp D1-30. Gosh it’s tight in here!
Everything came apart okay except for the last starter motor mounting bolt. It is high and behind the solenoid/motor and seems to be a different head size than the accessible one. Is that possible? Suggestions on how to get it out.
A thread on a different site suggested that it is a double headed bolt with one head being 5mm Allen. Doubt it because 5mm Allen would never take the torque necessary to break it loose.
Will put an endoscope on it tomorrow to see what gives but if someone has done it, all the better.
Cheers, Martyn Adams

A quick look in the workshop manual would suggest 2 identical screws, as logic would suggest. A socket on an extension is probably the weapon of juice. You might find it easier to take the top screw out first.
Good luck Graeme

Re: Starter remove replace VP D1-30

Agree with DameGravey, Ours is a D2-40, but the parts diagrams match. Have had it off several times. Two identical mounting screws 17mm (?) or 19mm (?) (working from memory) socket. Need a socket extension to get the upper one, and the extension has to be just the right length to snake past some protrusions on the engine.

Even more fun is getting the top one back in Some butyl tape or chewing gum in the socket goes a long way to allowing you to sneak it in there. And start with that top one so you can tilt the starter a bit to open up the access just enough to make a difference.

See the curved wrenches above. Some Chrysler starters used to need one of those. Once you have the right tool it is easy. Good luck
