The hose shop in Rio Dulce sells a food grade clear plastic hose with a stainless steel multi strand wire inside. I don't remember the temp range but it probably is ok as it's used for hot water too.

Those clear wire spiral hoses are very common on euro boats

So long as they are rated for below waterline use, but what comes immediately to mind is that some Euro boats have brass thru hulls too

PVC sani hose is rated for below the waterline too and this hose is perhaps better for some things. It has a steel wire inside for one thing. I had no choice but to use some for a cockpit drain and I feel pretty good about it.

Re: Sticky patch on engine?

Maybe depends on location? I just replaced the same hoses (and the coolant overflow, and the seawater inlet) on my boat with stainless reinforced clear hose which is the appropriate approved stuff down here according to cat 1 inspectors, and they’re usually pretty anal about everything here in NZ. It is really comforting to be able to see the flow of seawater clearly within the engine bay.

Sticky patch on engine?

Only issue in truth that I see is passing an Insurence survey, do whatever you need to do if nothing else is available of course, just if you can use the right hose from the beginning, it saves having to do the job twice and send more money is all.

It's the timing gear access plate.

The clear, wire embeded hose closest to the camera is the seawater outlet from the HE, traveling up to the anti-siphon valve. The similar hose farthest from the camera is the return from the anti-siphon valve traveling to the exhaust elbow.

As mentioned by another poster, this hose is commonly used in European boats, as well as Beneteau boats built in SC.

That’s exactly what it is and the boat is a Bavaria ;-)
