Re: Suitable Outboard Motor for Northern29?

I had a long shaft yamaha 9.9 (2005 ish model) on a 77 catalina 27. never any issues with power regardless of what the Columbia river was running. That boat was set up with a outboard lift and motor controls mounted in the cockpit worked great.

Re: Suitable Outboard Motor for Northern29?

As usual it all depends on where you are sailing/motoring. (as to long or extra long shaft and depth your bracket can reach as well as type stern and position of bracket on the stern)

Most anything will work on flat water as long as you don't go to the bow.

But if you are in say 2' swells you'll need the outboard to go as low in water as possible.

Video of flat and rough.

In the rougher water video I'm trying to get around some tankers (visible near end of video) so I can go back to sailing/motorsailing toward my destination.

When I leave/enter the dock I have my outboard all the way up ......

Flat water is self explanatory
