You can de barnacle the front port easily with a length of threaded rod or similar but the side ports are a much harder proposition. I have an SD 40 saildrive apart for new seals and diaphragm and the side port waterway had barnies all the way up. What was more interesting was what I found when I split the leg, a sheet of thin plastic had made it to the joint between upper and lower units. Click image for larger version

Without getting into a lengthy and detailed response...boatyard operations and laws in the Bahamas are in a totally different world than what you experience in the USA. Comparing to the USA is night and day.
