Throttle tension adjustment?

We are on a Moody 44 powered by a Volvo MD22 engine with a Morse style single lever throttle forward/reverse lever (with push button neutral).

The engine vibration (although not excessive) seems to vibrate the throttle lever such that it slowly returns to the vertical (and the engine slows). Is there any kind of adjustment to prevent this happening.

Many thanks,

Keith

If you take the cover plate off your Morse throttle lever, you'll find a tension screw that needs to me tightened. They often slowly work themselves loose.

Have a look at this.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I hadn’t known whether the adjustment was at the lever or at the engine. Once I knew it was the lever I was able to find this diagram:

I wonder if someone could help me further with this throttle control.

Whilst the binnacle is Whitlock, as is the leaflet shown, the mechanism is branded as Lewmar. I’ve had it apart to adjust the friction tension (as the throttle position has been vibrating to give lower revs). Unfortunately the access hole to get at the friction adjustment screw is not present on our cover so adjustment required taking the whole thing apart rather than just removing a bung. Furthermore the mechanism is bolted to the cover part through which the the control lever shaft emerges so both covers had to be removed.

So that’s my list excuses for having a piece fall out (shown in the photo) and not knowing what it’s for/what orientation it should be in.

It appears to me that it is the part I’ve marked with an arrow on the diagram. There is an unused micro switch (no wires connected to it) just below this location.

I’ve put it all back together without the part (in the belief that it’s role is probably to actuate the unused micro switch).

Confirmation that it’s not something vitally important (or otherwise) would be most appreciated).

Many thanks,

Keith

Re: Throttle tension adjustment?

Just had a response from Lewmar tech support:

Hello Keith,

No it is not required. It is there for some engines so it know if it is in gear or not but rarely used so no need to worry about this.

Re: Throttle tension adjustment?

Thanks for reporting the Lewmar response.
