Transmission Oil?

I just bought two new yanmar 4JH5E Diesel engines with KM35P transmissions.
The specification calls for SAE 30 for the Transmission.
Why not ATF?

I dont know why, but yes some, like yanmars, do use the motor oil. They mst be designed to run a lot cooler....

B/c it's cone-clutches and gears! A heavy weight oil is better for this system.

Kanzakee transmissions for the Yanmars call for 30w motor oil and I have over 6,000 hours on mine. Do it as recommended.

Our ZF gears also call for 30-weight. That's quite common.
