Trying to find out if it is a Hurth 50 or 100 gearbox

I've had to pull the trans/gearbox out of the 1985 Cal 35 MKII I purchased in Sept. Bearings are shot. But what I'm trying to do is buy a rebuild kit that has all I need for a full rebuild, but other than finding documentation that the Universal Atomic Diesel model 5432 came with HBW100, Id like to verify which model it is before purchasing. There's no tag on the the " box " just the Hurth name and serial number 288522.

1 Any help id'ing the gearbox would be helpful
2. A great place to get damper plate and rebuild kits

Thanks,
Randy

Hi Randy - if there are 3 bolts holding the halves of the case together, its an HBW 50.
You may also have an HBW 5, or HBW10. Look on the side of the unit, there may be some model info stamped into the case. Joe D

After taking it apart, thankful that it was a bearing that completely ate itself up. No gear or clutch damage. Lucky me!

Re: Trying to find out if it is a Hurth 50 or 100 gearbox

Couple of things you might carefully check upon reassembly:
- it looks like the failed input shaft bearing spun in the housing and polished the surface of the case....might be worth using some stud and bearing lock on it when it goes back together
- when that bearing failed it got quite hot and blued the shaft and gear....might be problematic down the road.

Be careful if buying a new Hurth trans. I made the error on a Hurth 50, and it was 1 inch longer, and slightly offset to starboard.
