Using Diesel Fuel Stabilizer

Is it ok to use Diesel Fuel Stabilizer on diesel fuel more than once.

We use the engine on our sailboat just to get on and off the dock so don’t go through very much fuel in a sailing season. We’ve been adding stabilizer sparingly based on the amount of fuel onboard before hauling the boat out for the winters here, but most of the fuel onboard has been on the boat for years.

My question is can you use fuel stabilizer on the same fuel more than
once to extend the life of the diesel.

I have triple dosed with Stanadyne with no ill effects. Ancient fuel and an old Perkins 4.236.

we use fuel doctor, and the bottle says "over treating with fuel doctor will have no detrimental effects to fuel system components"

i understand it's basically impossible to over dose on stabiliser...although you may waste some if it's not required.

cheers,

I sent a note off to Star Brite tech support. I’ve been using their product: Star Brite: EZ Store EZ Start Diesel Storage Additive. Here’s what they came back with:

“Fuel Stabilizers generally only work once on the fuel. Adding a stabilizer towards the end of the fuel's life will generally not extend the life any further.”

I haven’t found the Fuel Doctor products here in Canada so not sure if they are different.

Appreciate any further comments on products that might extend the life of diesel.

Diesel fuel breaks down much slower than gasoline. When treated with biokilling agents and stored in a sealed tank (no water instrusion), it will last for several years. I would be much more worried about algae and water than anything else. Good fuel filters will help.
