Using simple green in sea chest

I知 cleaning my sea chest soon and I知 considering pouring a large amount of Simple Green into it. It would then run through motor, generator, fridge system and AC lines. Would simple green be effective at cleaning these lines? And is there a downside I need consider?

Ideas opinions are appreciated.

Re: Using simple green in sea chest

I think I'd first investigate purpose-made solutions like Barnacle Buster, Rydlyme, etc.

I suggest checking the ingredients against the purpose-built stuff. Sometimes the "yacht" version is the same, with a surcharge for the label.

Simple Green won’t touch the sort of mineral deposits that need to be periodically cleaned out of those lines and heat exchangers. For that, you need something like what ranger58sb suggested.

A lot of the commercial products use Phosphoric Acid as the main ingredient. You can buy that on Amazon. Dilute to the same % as Barnacle Buster, etc.

Do you know the strength of the Phos Acid in Barnacle Buster before dilution? What strength do you target? What about the "non-main" ingredients? Surfactants and so forth? Do you know what they are? Do you know what they do?

Simple green is a surfactant. Despite its name you really shouldn't be flushing it overboard.

That, and it will do nothing to clear the lines of the kinds of things that foul them. Barnacles, mussels, other calcium depositing critters. Muscles shells are some of the most difficult. You need something to dissolve the calcium carbonate, and then decompose the keratin. This is a job for something that is DESIGNED to kill and dissolve living critters. Not to play nice with them!
