V drive stern gland access

Recently looked at a Valiant 40 with a Yanmar, couldn’t see or touch the stern gland.

Are there any tricks to stern gland access in V drives?

You can reach it and see it. You just have to lie down on the cabin sole. Or at least I can behind my Hurth v-drive. It can be a bit of a pain to adjust. I recently changed to a dripless however.

Re: V drive stern gland access

The yanmar gear box seems to block access much more than the old Walters I am used to.

I have previously had a v drive which was fine, but the yanmar one almost encloses the gland..

Did you have to drop the gearbox to do that, or did you pull the shaft?
