VDO Diesel Engine Water Temperature Sensor

Hi, the 90deg C alarm sensor are nearly $400 each in New Zealand while I can get a 120 deg C sensor for $30 Could my bukh handle 120 deg should it overheat?
Seems such a rip off price...

Re: VDO Diesel Engine Water Temperature Sensor

Can you set the alarm temperature at 90°C on the other sensor?
Otherwise look at digital temperature controllers. You can set the alarm temp at any temp you want.

Head to your auto poarts store. Temperature sensor switches are common and cheap.

I'd be a bit concerned by your substituting a 120 C for a 90 C, because they are on oppositie sides of water boiling. If your cooling system is not pressurized, you could boil away all your coolant without triggering the idiot light/alarm.

Re: VDO Diesel Engine Water Temperature Sensor

Years ago, when I had a boat with a raw-water cooled motor, it had a 140 degreeF thermostat. I was repeatedly told that if it ran hotter than this, it would promote clogging of the cooling passages.

No. But it depends on where one buys them, whether from the engine manufacturer, or VDO. They use the same senders in other applications. Pretty much any tractor sender of the right temperature range can be adapted if you search.
