Re: Volvo Penta MD17c governor

Ok great, kind of what I suspected.
I thought I should be able to exercise them a bit.
I've been soaking them in penetrant etc for a couple of months..... hopefully they free up, pulling the trans may be in my future.

Patrick of M: Funny, I too have a corbin 39 with an MD17C. Had a runaway situation, but now engine won't start. Not getting fuel to two injectors. Lots going on.

Re: Volvo Penta MD17c governor

Interesting. I have wondered how a runaway gets stopped on the MD17C.
With 3 seperate air filter intakes on the far side of the engine (on mine anyhow) that isn't an option. Other thought was decompression levers. How did you stop yours?

Re: Volvo Penta MD17c governor

I'm adding this as it is a helpful photo of the governor linkage as seen from the forward side.

Re: Volvo Penta MD17c governor

Thank you for the pictures!

I have in different eras of my sailing life been powered by a MD11C in different boats and I think that is the only part I have not had to deal with so far.

Bought back a yacht built by me and my father a year ago with the MD11C we installed so once again back loving that engine..

Solved the tendency for overheating at high power that the engine had already when I sold it and this year possible to go WOT unlimited ...

Now I fully understand how the governor interact with the linkage due to your nice pictures. - Super!
