Walters Vdrive overheated

So there I was doing a 30hr overnight run after installing the new BM 50 which ran great. I had not re pitched the prop yet so the engine was not being pushed much. 2,400 rpm at 5 knts taking it easy.
I smelled a overheating problem so checked around with a temperature gun and found that the Vdrive was smoking at 345 degrees! WTF.
I slowed down to 2200 rpm and the temp dropped to 250 degrees for the rest of the trip.
Looks like a rebuild on the Vdrive is needed.
Should have brought a new boat but would not be having this much fun!
