Water pouring from air intake

See here:

It's a Universal 3 cylinder engine. Any idea how the heck my engine is full of water?

Possibly the siphon break failed! Whatever the source Felix it’s incredibly important to turn off the raw water intake and make no attempt to rotate the engine with the starter. Take out the injectors and slowly rotate the engine with the crankshaft nut or the alternator pulley. You need to deal with this very quickly. Also check the lube oil level, there may be water in the sump as well.
Good luck.

Re: Water pouring from air intake

On thinking about it, just take out the glow plugs to get the water out of the cylinders. If I’m correct about the vent loop being blocked, the raw water slowly siphoned into the mixer elbow until the exhaust filled up to the level of the exhaust ports in the cylinder head then it entered the cylinders through whichever exhaust valve/s are open. On one cylinder the inlet valve was on overlap hence the water trickling out of the intake manifold filter housing.

In addition to removing the flow plugs to expel the water, you’ll also want to drain the muffler.

Re: Water pouring from air intake

I just got a call back from the mechanic, no damage done, but still salt water in the engine is never good.

Code:
heeling over too much caused the anti siphon loop to fail, but apparently it's a good system and placed as well as can be for our engine configuration.

So all is well, but we are advised to avoid dipping the rails on Felix. "Don't sail it like a racing boat," were Charles' exact words.
It's a Catalina 30 and it's not the original engine. However, "don't dip the rails" doesn't sound like an acceptable solution to me. While I don't sail it like a race boat, you never know when you are going to get a puff that heels it past the limit. The current anti siphon loop just doesn't sound good enough to me.

Close the sea cock whenever you’re not using the engine, and you’ll have no further issues.....
