Re: Westerbeke 44B starter problems

But if you take all the hoses off it makes the starter much easier to get to and you can paint your engine pretty also. I used Ford Red engine paint at $6 a can instead of westerbeke red at $27.

Re: Westerbeke 44B starter problems

How hard was it to physically remove? I've got both bolts/ nuts off, but it is not wanting to come out. I assume it's supposed to slide out towards the end of the engine with the belts on it, but it's not coming out. I've tried a little bit of hammer action, but I'm not getting any movement. Is there something else holding it in place- other than paint and corrosion?

It should only be the two bolts but the starter may be lodged in. If you have a rubber mallet or something tap it a few times in different directions to losen it. Make sure the bolts are out not just unbolted. I changed mine around when I put them back in to make it easier to get at the alan head sides. The only other thing holding mine is was the wires to the solenoid

Re: Westerbeke 44B starter problems

The starter might still be engaged to the flywheel the guy that rebuilt mine says it's not uncommon for them to be stuck like that aluminum housing on starter cast block on engine tap lightly just so you know it was 143.00 to rebuild mine two bearings one new shaft new solenoid and the casing was rusted bad Click image for larger version
