Westerbeke 7.6 BTD Replacement Thermostat

Hello CF,

Has anyone with a Westerbeke 7.6 BTD generator found a suitable replacement for the OEM thermostat 037043?

OEM is available but the price is $60+, so I was hoping that alternatives were available .

I checked Sierra and they do not show a cross reference listed.

Thanks,

Jeff

My generator is a 7.6 BTD. Is yours the same? An 8.0 BTD uses a completely different thermostat (p/n 24688)

For what it is worth, I replace unobtainable thermostats by using any commonly available automobile type of the same temperature setting that has a top cover, and is designed to fit either inside the cylinder head or a special thermostat casting on the end of it.

One drills a hole about 6mm diameter in the thermostat valve so that some hot water can pass by, and encloses the thermostat inside TWO top covers bolted together with a gasket and sealant. This composite is them placed in the outlet hose to the radiator or heat exchanger. It goes in-line, as closely to the cylinder head as you can fit it..

I have used this in several vehicles without trouble--but one MUST drill that bypass hole or all you will do is cook your engine.

Should be a circuit breaker on the back of the switch box mounted on the engine. Check to see if it is tripped.

Usually when gennies stop making power when everything is set correctly it's a diode (bank). Fortunately much cheaper repair than stator and rotor.
