Westerbeke 71C

We have a Westerbeke 71C in our Kaufman 47. The engine was installed by the previous owner and runs great. Periodic maintenance is easy enough, but checking Westerbeke for prices takes my breath away.


I am trying to definitively identify the make and model of the diesel engine Westerbeke marinized and sold as the model 71C. I have seen places that allude to the engine being a Mazda block, but I cannot find out anything beyond that.


Does anyone know for certain? Where on the engine block can I look for the manufacturers information?

Perkins/Mazda 4.154. Engine manufacturers and marinizers bread and butter is selling parts, which goes about halfway to explaining their often exorbitant prices...


Here's a favorite recent example, for a 13 mm ID standard rubber oring from GM. List price is 15.58.
