What Does This Ground Wire Connect To?

Hi Y'all,

I have what looks like a ground wire connected to a bolt on the stabilizer mounting. The other end runs beneath the alternator and is zip tied to one of the battery wires, but the terminal isn't connected to anything. I'd guess it fell off over time, and I can't find what it should be connected to. Can't find a comparable situation on the other engine. Detroit Diesel engines and Naiad stabilizers.

Attached an image.

Thanks!
Curtis

It wouldn’t be unreasonable for the stabilizer to have a ground to the engine block, do the seacocks have a grounding cable on em?
Is that a Hatteras engine room? It looks very familiar.

on our jene ds43 there is a ground wire from the prop strut to the engine to a ground block under the hull.. and im pretty sure it connects to the AC electric panel.. im fairly confident its the same as a ground rod for your house

Likely a bonding wire, but why isn’t it green?

Not to worry, it'll turn a nice shade of green when saltwater gets to it.

Ok, thank you for the reply! Yes they do. And yes it is 1982 53'

So, do I just attach the loose end of the ground to a bolt on the engine?

It's green. Just low light color

Yes, or a near by thru hull or ay part of the bonding system that the wire will reach to.

To be clear, ALL of your bonded items need to connected to each other, the motor, and neg batt.

Ok, thanks so much! I'll see what I can figure out. I don't see any other ground wires nearby, but I'll dig deeper. Appreciate it!
