Re: What fuel pump??

This is a pretty long thread so I confess to not having read the whole thing.
Some years ago (35) when I had an Atomic 4 I had the idea to convert the fuel pump to electric, so I got one of the Facet larger volume models. A number is on the tag- 574A, which could be a model number. It is cylindrical (2”) and about 5 in long. I never did anything with it. A few months ago I found it and set up a fuel transfer rig to pump diesel from a dock-side tank cart into the boat’s tanks. (Saves over a dollar a gallon, buying off-road diesel from a distributor). No strain, worked well.
However, (a long, humbling story) the fuel got contaminated with rain water and had to be pumped out. I rigged the pump to the pickup line on the boat’s tank and pumped it out- no problem. The vertical lift from pickup point to the discharge was about six feet. Since the pump was sold by a reputable Atomic 4 specialist, I had no concern over its suitability for carbureted engines. But it would obviously work if one like it or similar could be found.

Do you have space for a header/day tank higher up. As for blow rather than suck, I don't see a problem with blowing IF it is a centrifugal rather than positive displacement pump. You could always bring a spill pipe back to your tank so that a standard one can't build up pressure.

Couldn't you put an automotive regulator in-line too? That could keep it down to the 5 PSI or whatever you need it to be at I would guess?

Wow. I completely missed this post and I think you nailed it. I’m sorry I didn’t respond. I was looking at getting one of these five psi pressure switches. From an automotive store. That would probably take care of the problem.
