What Make is This Filter ?

Can anyone PLS chime in on what filter I got?

The box and the filter are marked: FT-3500

I intended to buy a small spin-on to match a Volvo MD7A. I got this from the local, well established filter supplier in our harbour district (in Canary Islands, Spain).

I went online to check the make / parameters but my extended googling returns no matches.

(I was told FT stands for Filter Truck, but I cannot find Filter Truck online either ...)

Thank you!

Image attached now.

The make is not Filter Truck (or at least google does not find any Filter Truck aftermarket company).

Anybody?

Can't be a lemon. Looks 100% like something done in a proper factory.

Thanks,
barnakiel

Indeed the only cross reference found is a Bosch 3500. I assume an aftermarket Bosch supplier. Specs meet our Volvo Penta needs.

Thank you very much!

MD2 still going strong? Which year built?

I think MD2 was the first small volume diesel from Volvo. Quite some history. What was the block back then?

Our MD7 is an Albin block. Imho much better block than later Mercedes and Perkins blocks. I can see new engines are Perkins block too which sort of delays my decision to buy a new engine for our boat.

Cheers,
b.

Re: What Make is This Filter ?

Not sure what year I think '72 or 3. Got it for $100 USD the guy thought it needed a rebuild. When I did the compression test it tested out as a new engine. Just needed a muratic bath of waterways, and a bit of paint. It's going into my defender replacing the missing atomic. ( more power than I need but never heard anyone complain about to many horses.)

I can get you a good running md17c reasonable. But bet shipping would be expensive.
If your block is good better to rebuild Than repower . Jmho

The manual sez you want an AC-Delco 1530838 (SA). Maybe you can raise that number on a cross-check.

I put - oil filter 3500- in google and the following comes up as #4 :
https://www.amazon.com/Bosch-3500-Pr.../dp/B000CF3WDU

Which makes me think that the FT stands for FILTECH

Re: What Make is This Filter ?

I think it is a " Fleet Guard" recognised brand pretty much world wide!

Re: What Make is This Filter ?

If it’s a fleet guard filter it should say so clearly on the can, and if it is, it’s an excellent filter. I think Fleet guard is owned by Cummins?

Re: What Make is This Filter ?

Interestingly, it seems only Bosch and Napa make 3500 filters but only Bosch meets the specs of Volvo MD7. However Bosch 3500 looks taller and most Bosch filters I have seen were a black can. FT could be for FILTECH indeed.

The engine face side looks odd as it has only 4 of the small perimeter holes which are not round. They look exactly like this:

This far, Bosch 3500 FILTECH (equivalent) makes most sense, except 3500 Bosch OEM is longer.
