Where to find oil for SD20 in US

Sorry for this question, trying to do an oil change tomorrow (Sunday).

My SD20, mated to 3YM30, says it needs "GL-4 or GL-5 in the API service, and SAE No. 90 or 80W90."

Shell Spilax oil EP 90, Mobil Mobilub HD 80W-90, or Esso Esso gear oil GP 90 .

I would guess a yanmar dealer has this, but they are not open tomorrow, nor is one close to me or my boat. Westmarine doesn't look like they carry these.

Where does one find this oil? Thanks.

Should be able to get it at any auto dealers. This is where we get ours.

I use an Amsoil product made for marine use.

They claim it will tolerate 10% water content.

Synthetic oils supposedly have longer change intervals, which is good when changing is so difficult.

80w90 is a standard gear oil. You can also use engine oil, not synthetic, as a substitute for GL-4. It's lower viscosity so warrants some caution for extreme service.

GL-4 and 5, have been the standard extreme pressure, EP, transaxle oil since the 1950s.

Any ag, industrial or truck repair shop will carry it.

Bogus claim.

The water will react with the sulphur additives and pit surfaces aggressively at operating temp.

You may want to check Walmart, they carry Mobil 80 w90 differential lube, get the stuff for posi rears to be safe,. Check the specs on the jug but I think you will find it meets the specs.

Quicksilver gear oil or the high performance version. Tolerates water in oil. Should be easily available as US made

Yes, use the Mercury Quicksilver HP Gear Lube-SAE90, you should need approximately 2 1/2 US quarts.

Try an auto parts store. Weight and service ratings are generally right on the container.

Re: Where to find oil for SD20 in US

How dd your oil get low? The most likely cause of low oil on the SD-20 (other than draining it) is leaking out of the propeller shaft seal - if your boat is on the hard and low on oil, the SD-20 is begging you for an oil seal change - if you are ignoring it, you are looking at a serious oil/water problem in the near future.

Walmarts has the oil, but the seals are kind of a problem since the cartridge has to be removed and resealed.
