In the spirit of thread closure, I re examined the Racor it is not leaking at the JAE fitting and O-ring . It is leaking at the threads to the barbed fitting that is screwed into the JAE fitting-they should have some sealant. By the way called Racor, impossible to get through to them so I think the mystery is solved. Everybody is right but JAE fittings rely on an O-rings and no sealant-NPT threaded fittings can benefit from sealant.
