Re: Yamaha 9.9 does not shift into gear after winter storage. Any ideas?

Doubt this will help... But here goes.
My 1998 9.9 Yamaha engine has a device that connects to the shift rod (I presume that is what you call the rod that connected to the shifting handle/lever) that keeps you from shifting unless the throttle is all the way backed off. I was having some trouble shifting and discovered the device. I disabled it. You have a newer model, so this may not apply. And it wouldn't make sense that this device would get off kilter just setting for the winter. Still it is worth a quick check, that is if your outboard has this mechanism. Good luck.
