Re: Yanmar 1GM starting issues

been through the clicking starter issue on my 2qm20 recently - in your case the fact that you replaced the starter without fixing the problem is a pretty good indicator - in my engine there were; old power switches that created poor connections (replaced); poor connections to key switch (cleaned and tightened); a poor connection of the main earth to the engine; the connection to the solenoid was old and poor; to top it off the starter was on the way out. Since i finally fixed all these problems, the starter now works well and reliably.
sorry cant offer anything on the other problems aside from the broad observation that on an older engine its not enough to pinpoint one end of any particular system as the sole cause of a problem, every part in the system chain is suspect. If you are having a problem in the fuel system you have to check; tank vent, tank filter, fuel taps, all hoses and connections, filters, lift pump, regulator, injector pump, injectors, etc, etc, any one one or several of these elements could be causing problems.
good luck.
