Yanmar 2GM Transmission

Hi
Does anyone knows if it is possible to replace a Yanmar 2GM transmission KM2A with a KM2P ? They look the same except for the bell housing.

I have a 2GM20F with a KM2P in my 1988 C&C 30-2. I don't know if they're interchangable but I would assume so. Call Dieselbec in Boisbriand, they're your local Yanmar dealer 450 434 3401

It's actually Dieselbec who offered me the KM2P thinking it could fit my engine. But when I looked at it with their mechanic both of us were not sure. The Bell housing of the KM2P is deeper than the KM2A. But, in my opinion, it (The housing) can be replaced with the one on my KM2A as it is in good shape.

Anyway I was looking for info/experiences from those who did it.

Re: Yanmar 2GM Transmission

Are you sure your's is bad? What are the problems with it?

I say this because I have one which was slipping in forward, and I have (based on great advice here) taken it apart, lapped the drive cones (with valve grinding compound) to remove the glaze, and put back together to get another few years out of it. I have a squealing sound, which I believe is form some play in the output shaft / shims, that may be causing the glazing, but lapping the cone gently for may be 30 second to a minute - doesn't take much) has saved me twice.
