Yanmar 2GM20FC

I have a 2GM20 with a SD20 saildrive. There is a major oil leak somewhere between the two. Besides separating the engine and saildrive what is involved in replacing the rear seal (if that is the problem). Do you need special tools to remove the old seal and press in the new one or is that something you can do by hand?

Re: Yanmar 2GM20FC

The 3GM30 has an oil line that runs from the left side of the engine, around the back and into the block on the right side. This line is prone to rusting especially under the exhaust manifold as that can leak salt water on to it. If the 2GM20 has a similar oil line might check to make sure that is not the cause of your leak. The original line was steel, the newer replacement is copper so shouldn't rust.

Re: Yanmar 2GM20FC

Is it engine oil or gear lube ? The SD input shaft seal is easy to replace. The rear main on the 2gm20f isn't too bad either but you must remove the flywheel and pressure plate. Still pretty easy. If you have to split them may as well do both while you are in there. The oil line that leaks from rusting runs behind the starter so if there is oil beneath your starter on the block that's your issue.
