Yanmar 3GM Antifreeze Smell

Hello all, I moved the boat out of hurrican Matthew's line last October and while motoring, I noticed an antifreeze smell. I popped the engine cover and the two small hoses at the top of the engine that runs to the plastic reservoir were leaking. After all of the drama, the hoses were replaced and I motored back to the marina (following the boatyard stay). With the engine warm, the smell returned. After cooling, I hosed the engine compartment down to wash any residual away. It subsided. Last week I moved the boat again and with the engine warmed up again, the smell returned.

Any ideas on how to get the smell out? Do you believe it permeated into the fiberglass? Any help will be appreciated because it is annoying.

Thanks, that sounds good. I will scrub the engine, compartment and bilge area.

Re: Yanmar 3GM Antifreeze Smell

I learned the hard way to stay away from simple green, it is corrosive, and believe it or not but we learned in the Army that lemon fresh joy ate up cannon plugs.
A cheap mild car soap is great, won't cause any harm

Re: Yanmar 3GM Antifreeze Smell

Thanks Skipper, good info. Our cannon plugs were always pitted from the detergents used in washing the aircraft (Naval air puke here). We started coating them with this sticky bluish crap. Awful. Cheap car soap I can do!
