Yanmar 3GM30 Starter Solenoid

Is the starter selinoid made as a part of the starter or is it a separate device? The area is in a very hard to access space and I just can't tell without removing the starter. My problem is the stud on the selinoid is stripped and I can't make the connection tight.

It would be a real bummer if I have replace the whole thing.

I discovered it while running a new wire from the button at the panel.

The solenoid is separate, but it is very likely that you'll have to remove the starter to replace it, providing you can find the solenoid. Have you tried adding washers or an extra nut to get onto some non-stripped section of the stud?

A common problem where copper studs or nuts are used. I solve it by buying brass hex bar and making a long nut by drilling and tapping the bar through the centre.

The part number for the starter solenoid is X2114T7013 sells for about $105.00, and you will have to remove the starter to install it.

Re: Yanmar 3GM30 Starter Solenoid

X211447009 is correct, but that's the old #. and will work as well.
X2114T7013 is the new. Yanmar is always changing part numbers.

No need to cut the old nut off if it's stripped close to the base, just put the new nut on top of the old. Size should be 8mm x 1.25.

Re: Yanmar 3GM30 Starter Solenoid

I had removed the nut, cleaned and coated all the terminals and striped the nut trying to tighten it back up. I suppose I could put a new nut on the end and if it snugs up the connections, i will leave it for now.
Thanks a bunch for the info on the solenoid. If i do screw up the stud, i will need to replace it.
The nut has to come off to remove the starter from the boat because the wires are short but i may be able to get it out far enough handle easier.

If you have room, you might try prying up on the terminal near the stud with a screwdriver while loosening the nut. Sometimes the nut will grip the good threads and unscrew.

I will, thanks. Cutting the nut will be hard to do with the access.

Thanks for the ideal of the coupling nut. I cut the old nut off with a dremal tool and the stud was a mess. There was just enough threads to start the coupling nut and I pushed and turned.......snugged up just dandy!

Local Ace Hardware had them for $1.79

Thanks again.
