Recently installed a brand new yanmar 3JH40 in my sailboat engine drives a hydraulic pump which powers a hydraulic motor on the propeller shaft. As such no neutral safety switch is required.Engine will not start. There is power to the starter, but will not actuate when start switch on yanmar panel is pressed.engine is common rail fuel system electronically controlled.yanmar dealer not familiar with ECU. Any suggestions.

Re: Yanmar 3JH40

I'm not familiar with that engine but the wiring diagram shows a neutral safety switch connected to the ECU. You said you didn't have a neutral safety switch but the ECU is looking for an open or short (not sure which) on that connection to start. Since you don't have that switch it's open. If it requires a short to indicate it's in neutral it wont start. A little research should give you the answer.
