Does anyone have parts and service manuals for 1988 Yanmar 4JHBE motor that you would share with me?
Also looking for info on good quality spares such as impellers, thermostat without the gold plated OEM price!

Take a look in the CF library!

Yanmar 4JH Series Service Manual

Click on the “Library” tab at the top of the CF page and search “Yanmar” to see the various manuals available. There are so many Yanmar flavors that knowing the exact right manual may take a bit of digging.

The "BE" in the engine model just means that it was shipped from the factory with a down angle transmission attached

You're right, it is easy to find online, right here on CF. The link I posted was to the service manual for the entire 3JHx and 4JHx series. It includes the 3JH3E, 3JH3BE, 3JH3CE, 4JHE, 4JHBE, and 4JHCE. And it includes the KM3A and 3P transmissions, which is the only real difference in the flavors.

The link you posted was for the 3JH3x and 4JH3x series. There are some subtle differences between the generations (though not much) I'm thinking the OP saw that it wasn't specifically calling out the 4JH series ( series 1) and didn't think it applied.

Absolutely my mistake. I guess my brain is so used to seeing the '3' that I completely overlooked that little piece. Apologies.

Thanks for the help with the service manual, I downloaded it now any sources for the parts book?
and has anyone found aftermarket impellers, thermostats, etc? The Yanmar price on the thermostat is around $85 and I just want a spare that functions well.

There are lots of cross references for common parts. E.g. belts, filters impellers. For instance I run volvo impellers in my 4JH2E because they cost 1/4 the price of yanmar impellers. Where I am the only local yanmar dealer wants over $120 PER impeller!! I've been buying Volvo impellers that match for around $30. Some of the other parts might be available at napa too.
