Yanmar fuel/water separator

Hello all I have a 2022 Yanmar 4JH80 engine on a Bali 5.4. Went to replace the fuel/water separator filter yesterday and there is a plastic nut on the bottom that contains a sensor, and the thing won’t come off. It is able to rotate about one inch in either direction when I spin it, but it won’t spin any further. I am scared I will break it if I try harder and then I will not have a working engine. This seems like a very poor design to me, does anyone know the best way to get this cap off?
Thank you.

Are you trying to remove the white plastic piece or the whole metal cylinder? The latter should unscrew and your filter is likely inside of that.

The whole metal cylinder is the filter. That is how the replacement part comes. I need to remove the plastic cap on the bottom in order to replace it.

Ah right. Mine work same way but I don't have a sensor. I assume you tried pulling it straight out after rotating it?

My engine is a 4jH3e so not much more help I am afraid

I did try that a bit but I would hate to strip the plastic threads in the cap. That part would be very hard to find and replace. I just can’t believe they would make this so difficult and fragile. I feel like there must be another way that I am missing.

Look at age 94. It seems that the item you are trying to remove does indeed spin off as a threaded connection. May just need to put some more into getting it off.

I noticed that the link has 2 or 3 versions of the manual. Mine must be a bit different. Nonetheless, it is in there somewhere.

SnowandSail: I’ve been looking for that exact water/fuel separator for a 4jh80. Do you have that part number? (Just the filter not the assembly) or a link to source one?
