Yanmar ignition key assembly

Does anyone know where to buy a replacement Yanmar diesel ignition assembly? I have a 3GM30.

After starting the engine I generally take the key out and put it away but not today. I responded to a Mayday call and started the engine, dropped sails and headed to the boat in trouble. Coast guard got there just as I arrived thank God. But in the hustle I kicked the key and broke the plastic bits around the keyhole. Ignition still works and I glued it together but it is not a permanent fix.

Any ideas?

Re: Yanmar ignition key assembly

Yanmar strictly coToad ntrols their parts distributors by geographical area. If you're located in Maine, the two I've used are Toad Marine (TMS Sailing, Marine Diesel Engine Parts and Boating Supplies from Toad Marine Supply) and Niemiec Marine (https://niemiecmarine.com/). Toad is usually a bit less expensive, but there's no such thing as inexpensive when it comes to Yanmar parts. Do you have the part number for the ignition switch?

Looks like the part number is 124070-91250. You can get it from Toad for $62.53.

Save yourself a bundle, go to NAPA auto parts store and they can match the ignition switch for less than half that price.

the 3GM30 iginition key is just a common key that you can get at any hardware store for $3. I know this because when I installed a 3GM30F a number of years ago I also lost the original ignition key and in my desperation I tried keys that I had and my mailbox key worked perfectly. Its a common profile with a simple grind. If you need a whole new assembly. just get a regular one from defender and wire it in. Nothing special.

you should think about moving the panel so that its not somewhere that you can easily kick it too!
