Yanmar KBW 21 transmission

Hello. I am removing this transmission from my 41ft sailboat. How should I support propellor shaft? Should I lower it to allow room to pull transmission or tie or block it in position? There are two 4 bolt round flanges that meet up. I plan to unbolt these after supporting shaft. There is a safety wired pin bolt on the shaft side flange. Should I undo this and slide flange down the shaft to allow room to pull transmission? I've obviously never done this before. Could anyone in the know help me?

I have not pulled a transmission on my sailboat either, but you should be able to slide the shaft aft after disconnecting the drive coupling, depending on your boats design, you may can slide it quite far aft, or the prop may hit the rudder in a few inches, but even that may be enough.
I'd support it, maybe not real important, but I don't see how it would hurt

If nothing else maybe I'll bump your post so someone with more knowledge will weigh in.
